Fortetropin is a proteo-lipid complex derived from fertilized egg yolk developed as a muscle health dietary supplement. It is designed to improve muscle protein synthesis and maintain or increase lean body mass. Its mechanism of action is related to the inhibition of myostatin (growth differentiation factor-8, GDF-8), a protein that negatively regulates muscle growth. By inhibiting myostatin, Fortetropin may promote muscle protein synthesis and increase lean body mass, as reported in human and animal studies[1][3][4][5]. - In older adults, Fortetropin supplementation resulted in a significant increase (~18%) in the rate of muscle protein synthesis compared to placebo[3][5]. - In young men, it was shown to keep myostatin levels from rising during periods of muscle disuse[1]. - Veterinary and clinical trials indicate its benefit in maintaining or improving muscle mass in cats with chronic kidney disease, in dogs following surgery, and in older dogs[4][5]. The exact molecular constituents of Fortetropin include proteins and lipids unique to fertilized egg yolk, but it is not a single purified molecule.
