FORZID-AV

FORZID-AV is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic developed and marketed by United Biotech. It contains ceftazidime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and avibactam, a non-beta-lactam beta-lactamase inhibitor. Ceftazidime works by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), particularly PBP3, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and leads to cell death. Avibactam acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protecting ceftazidime from degradation by Ambler class A, class C, and some class D beta-lactamases, thereby restoring and expanding its spectrum of activity against multi-drug resistant Gram-negative pathogens. FORZID-AV is approved in India for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI), and hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP).
