Overview

Fosdevirine is an experimental antiviral agent classified as a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It was developed for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and demonstrated potent activity against both wild-type and efavirenz-resistant strains of HIV-1. Fosdevirine was discovered by Idenix Pharmaceuticals and further developed by GlaxoSmithKline and ViiV Healthcare. Clinical development reached Phase 2 but was discontinued due to unexpected delayed-onset seizures observed in some patients[1][3][5][7].
