Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fospropofol disodium + sufentanil is a combination anesthetic regimen consisting of a water-soluble prodrug of propofol and a potent opioid analgesic. Fospropofol disodium is metabolized by alkaline phosphatases to its active moiety, propofol, which acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor to induce sedation and anesthesia. Sufentanil is a highly potent mu-opioid receptor agonist that provides intense analgesia. This combination is primarily investigated for procedural sedation and general anesthesia induction, particularly in settings like ureteroscopic lithotripsy for urinary calculi, where it is evaluated for patient satisfaction and hemodynamic stability compared to standard propofol-based regimens.
