Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fotagliptin (as fotagliptin benzoate) is a selective, once-daily, oral small molecule dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with Chongqing Fochon Pharmaceutical. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. By inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, fotagliptin prevents the rapid degradation of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This action leads to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby lowering blood glucose levels with a low risk of hypoglycemia and minimal weight gain. Fotagliptin was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2024.
