Fotoker is a topical medical device formulated as a cream, primarily indicated for the prevention and adjuvant treatment of actinic keratosis (AK) and the protection of field cancerization. The primary active component is liposome-encapsulated photolyase, a DNA repair enzyme derived from the cyanobacterium *Anacystis nidulans*. This enzyme specifically recognizes and repairs cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) in DNA that are induced by ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation through a process known as photoreactivation. By facilitating the repair of DNA damage before it leads to oncogenic mutations, Fotoker helps prevent the progression of actinic lesions and reduces the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer. It is often used as part of a dermatological management plan for patients with extensive sun damage or a history of skin cancer.
