Overview

FOV2501 is a recombinant protein drug candidate developed for the treatment of retinal diseases, particularly retinitis pigmentosa. Its mechanism of action involves stimulation of nucleoredoxin-like protein 1 (NXNL1), which plays a critical role in promoting retinal cone photoreceptor survival by enhancing aerobic glycolysis and facilitating glucose entry into photoreceptors. The drug was originally discovered by a team led by Prof. Jose-Alain Sahel and has been associated with both congenital disorders and eye diseases[2][9][10].
