Overview

Fovepta (BT088) is a plasma-derived human hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) developed by Biotest Pharma GmbH, a subsidiary of Grifols. It contains a high concentration (500 IU/ml) of anti-HBs antibodies, providing immediate passive immunization against the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The product is primarily indicated for post-exposure prophylaxis, particularly in neonates born to HBV-carrier mothers, and for the prevention of hepatitis B reinfection in patients following liver transplantation due to HBV-induced liver failure. Fovepta is designed to achieve protective antibody titers rapidly and is typically administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection, often in conjunction with active hepatitis B vaccination.
