Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FP-100 is an orally bioavailable, narrow-spectrum small molecule antibiotic developed by Flightpath Biosciences. It exhibits selective bactericidal activity against *Borrelia burgdorferi* (the causative agent of Lyme disease), *Treponema* species (implicated in syphilis and gum disease), and pathogenic strains of *Fusobacterium nucleatum* (associated with colorectal cancer, oral squamous cell carcinoma, endometriosis, infertility, pre-term birth, and stillbirth). Unlike broad-spectrum antibiotics that disrupt the gut microbiome, FP-100 targets specific pathogens while sparing beneficial bacteria. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in eliminating *F. nucleatum* from the oral cavity and reducing bone loss in mouse models of periodontitis without harming the beneficial microbiome. The drug is being developed as a "pipeline-in-a-pill" for multiple infectious diseases including Lyme disease (currently in phase I clinical trials), syphilis, periodontal diseases, leptospirosis, and potentially other indications[1][2][3][4][5][7].
