Overview

FP-MMP-12 inhibitor 2 is a preclinical-stage small molecule inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12), developed by Foresee Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of neurological disorders. MMP-12, also known as macrophage elastase, is a proteolytic enzyme primarily expressed by macrophages that degrades extracellular matrix components like elastin and is a key mediator of inflammatory processes. In the central nervous system, elevated MMP-12 activity is associated with blood-brain barrier disruption and neuroinflammation. By selectively inhibiting MMP-12, this compound aims to mitigate neuroinflammatory damage and provide therapeutic benefit in conditions such as multiple sclerosis or other neurodegenerative diseases. The program is part of Foresee's broader platform of highly selective MMP-12 inhibitors, which includes other candidates like aderamastat and linvemastat for respiratory and inflammatory indications.
