Overview

FPP005 is an antibody-inducing peptide targeting interleukin-23 (IL-23), developed by FunPep in collaboration with Osaka University. It is designed as a therapeutic vaccine to induce the patient's own immune system to generate antibodies against IL-23, a cytokine that plays a key role in the differentiation and stabilization of Th17 cells and is implicated in autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis. By inducing anti–IL-23 antibodies, FPP005 aims to suppress chronic inflammation mediated by Th17 cells and their downstream cytokines (e.g., IL-17A, TNF-alpha). Unlike monoclonal antibody drugs that are manufactured externally, this peptide can be chemically synthesized and administered less frequently due to its long-lasting effect from endogenous antibody production. The drug is currently in preclinical development for psoriasis but may have potential applications for other inflammatory diseases where IL-23 plays a pathogenic role[1][2][3][4].
