FRβ CAR CIK cells represent an advanced adoptive cell therapy utilizing Cytokine-Induced Killer (CIK) cells genetically engineered with a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) specifically targeting Folate Receptor Beta (FRβ). This engineering aims to enhance the CIK cells' ability to recognize and eliminate cancer cells and immunosuppressive tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) that express FRβ. FRβ is found on myeloid lineage hematopoietic cells, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells and M2-like TAMs, which are often associated with poor prognosis in various solid tumors. By redirecting CIK cells to FRβ, this therapy is designed to exert potent anti-tumor activity, offering a potential therapeutic strategy for FRβ-positive malignancies and for modulating the tumor microenvironment.
