Overview
Fragrance Mix + Thimerosal is a combination of standardized allergens used as a diagnostic tool within the T.R.U.E. TEST (Thin-layer Rapid Use Epicutaneous Test) system. Developed by Allerderm, this product is specifically designed to identify allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in patients with suspected sensitivities to common fragrance ingredients or the preservative thimerosal. The fragrance mix component consists of eight distinct substances: geraniol, cinnamaldehyde, hydroxycitronellal, cinnamyl alcohol, eugenol, isoeugenol, alpha-amylcinnamaldehyde, and oak moss. Thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative often found in cosmetics and vaccines. The allergens are formulated in a hydrophilic polymer gel (such as povidone) on a polyester patch. When applied to the skin, perspiration hydrates the gel, releasing the allergens to penetrate the epidermis and trigger a delayed-type (Type IV) hypersensitivity reaction in sensitized individuals, mediated by T-lymphocytes and Langerhans cells.
