Overview

Fraxinus latifolia pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Oregon ash tree, native to the Pacific Northwest of North America. It is a biologic product regulated by the FDA for use in both diagnostic skin testing and allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT). The extract contains a complex profile of allergenic proteins, most notably the major allergen Fra e 1, which is cross-reactive with other members of the Oleaceae family, such as olive and common ash. In diagnostic procedures, the extract is used to confirm IgE-mediated hypersensitivity through percutaneous or intradermal testing. For therapeutic purposes, it is administered via subcutaneous injection to induce immunological tolerance, characterized by a shift from Th2 to Th1 immune responses, the induction of regulatory T cells, and the production of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies that block IgE-mediated mast cell degranulation.
