Overview

Fraxinus velutina pollen is a biologic allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the velvet ash tree (Fraxinus velutina), also known as the Arizona ash. [1] Developed by ALK-Abello, Inc., it is used for both the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with immediate hypersensitivity (Type I) allergies to this specific pollen. [16] For diagnosis, it is administered via percutaneous (prick) or intradermal skin tests to confirm sensitivity. [16] For treatment, it is used in allergen immunotherapy, administered through subcutaneous injections, to desensitize the patient's immune system and reduce allergic symptoms over time. [16] As a member of the Oleaceae family, Fraxinus velutina pollen can cause cross-reactivity in individuals allergic to olive tree pollen. [19] A specific formulation under NDC code 0268-1017-50 was previously available as a multi-dose vial, but this listing certification has since expired.
