Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Free thyroxine (FT4) is the unbound, biologically active form of thyroxine (T4), a crucial hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It plays a fundamental role in regulating the body's metabolic rate, growth, and development. FT4 levels are a key diagnostic marker used to assess thyroid function and diagnose various thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. While FT4 itself is an endogenous hormone, its synthetic counterpart, levothyroxine, is a pharmaceutical drug used for thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
