Freeze-Dried California Table Grape

Freeze-Dried California Table Grape is an investigational nutraceutical intervention developed by the University of Michigan for the prophylaxis of post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). The intervention consists of a concentrated powder derived from California table grapes, which is rich in anthocyanins and other bioactive phytochemicals. These compounds are thought to exert anti-inflammatory effects by altering the transcription of inflammatory markers in cardiac tissue, addressing the inflammatory state that typically follows cardiac surgery. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery, such as mitral valve repair, as a potentially safer alternative to traditional anti-inflammatory drugs that may increase bleeding risks.
