Overview

Fremanezumab is a fully humanized monoclonal antibody used for the prevention of migraine headaches in adults. It works by binding to both alpha and beta isoforms of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide involved in the pathophysiology of migraines, and blocks its interaction with the CGRP receptor. By inhibiting CGRP activity, fremanezumab reduces vasodilation and nociceptive signaling associated with migraine attacks. The drug is administered as a subcutaneous injection, typically on a monthly or quarterly basis. Fremanezumab was developed by Teva Pharmaceuticals and represents an important advance among anti-CGRP therapies for migraine prevention[2][3][4][5][6][7].
