Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fresh fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a therapeutic procedure that involves transferring fecal bacteria and other microbes from a healthy donor to a recipient. It is primarily used for treating recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). Fresh FMT refers specifically to FMT using non-frozen stool that is processed and administered within hours of collection. The procedure works by restoring gut microbiota diversity, which helps combat C. difficile by reestablishing a healthy bacterial community in the intestine. Fresh FMT can be administered through various routes including colonoscopy, enema, nasogastric tube, or nasoduodenal tube.
