Fresh red blood cells (RBCs) are transfusion products defined by their shorter storage duration compared to standard-issue RBCs. They are red blood cells that have been stored for a shorter period after collection, typically ≤7 days, though definitions vary across clinical contexts. Fresh RBCs are used in blood transfusions to increase oxygen-carrying capacity in patients with critical bleeding or anemic conditions.
