Frizzled-6 small interfering RNA (FZD6 siRNA) is an RNA interference-based research tool and potential therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of the Frizzled-6 (FZD6) receptor. FZD6 is a member of the Frizzled family of G protein-coupled receptors that function as receptors for Wnt signaling proteins, particularly within the planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway. In cutaneous melanoma, FZD6 has been identified as a critical promoter of tumor cell invasion and metastasis. Research conducted by the Chang group indicates that while FZD6 knockdown alone may not significantly impact cell proliferation, its simultaneous inhibition with the closely related FZD3 receptor (FZD3/6 double knockdown) leads to a significant decrease in melanoma cell proliferation, suggesting functional redundancy between the two receptors. This siRNA is primarily utilized in preclinical research to investigate the molecular mechanisms of melanomagenesis and to evaluate the viability of FZD6 as a therapeutic target.
