Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FRM-EGF is a non-viral gene therapy consisting of a plasmid DNA encoding a modified human epidermal growth factor (EGF) fused with a furin recognition motif (FRM) [1140]. Developed by Inje University, this therapeutic candidate is designed to promote wound healing, particularly in chronic or non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers. The insertion of the furin recognition motif prior to the EGF sequence allows endogenous furin within host cells to cleave and facilitate the efficient secretion of mature, active EGF into the extracellular wound environment [1140]. Delivered locally via methods such as ultrasound-guided microbubble destruction (sonoporation), FRM-EGF aims to overcome the short half-life and rapid degradation of topically applied growth factors, thereby accelerating re-epithelialization, collagen deposition, and tissue regeneration.
