Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fructus Amomi, commonly known as Sharen in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), refers to the dried ripe fruits of *Amomum villosum* Lour. or *Wurfbainia villosa*. It is a well-established medicinal and edible plant widely utilized for its gastroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor properties. The therapeutic efficacy of Fructus Amomi is primarily attributed to its rich content of volatile oils, including bornyl acetate, camphor, and borneol, as well as diarylheptanoids. In clinical practice, it is traditionally employed to treat various gastrointestinal disorders such as dyspepsia, abdominal pain, vomiting, and dysentery. Modern pharmacological research has demonstrated its potential in inhibiting colorectal cancer cell proliferation by suppressing the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, attenuating nasal inflammation in allergic rhinitis by restoring Th1/Th2 balance, and exhibiting antiviral effects against coxsackievirus-B3 induced myocarditis.
