Overview

Fructus Tribuli is the dried fruit of the plant *Tribulus terrestris* L., widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda. It contains a variety of bioactive constituents, including steroidal saponins (such as protodioscin), flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin, luteolin), and alkaloids. The drug is primarily investigated for its potential in treating male reproductive disorders, such as oligospermia and erectile dysfunction, by potentially modulating androgen levels or nitric oxide signaling. Additionally, research in animal models suggests that Fructus Tribuli may possess neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties, possibly mediated through the inhibition of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and antioxidant effects. Clinical trials have explored its efficacy and safety in improving sperm parameters in men with oligospermia.
