Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FSHR transmembrane mimetic peptides are synthetic peptides designed to mimic the transmembrane (TM) helices (specifically TM1, TM3, TM4, TM6, and TM7) of the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR). These peptides insert into the lipid bilayer and interfere with TM-TM interactions, thereby modulating FSHR oligomerisation, trafficking, and signaling profiles. Developed by researchers at King's College London and the University of Liverpool, these peptides represent a novel pharmacological strategy distinct from conventional agonism or antagonism. Combinations of these peptides (such as TM1,7 and TM1,3) have been shown to selectively modulate FSH-dependent cAMP production, ERK phosphorylation, and IP1 generation, and can attenuate FSH-dependent follicle growth in ovarian tissues.
