FT839 is an investigational, off-the-shelf dual CAR T-cell therapy developed using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology. It is designed to express two unique chimeric antigen receptors (CARs): one targeting CD19+ B cells and another targeting additional disease-causing cells, specifically the cell surface glycoprotein CD38. Preclinical studies have shown that iPSC-derived CAR T cells targeting both CD19 and CD38 can eliminate a variety of malignant cell types, including those relevant to lymphoma and multiple myeloma, as well as aberrant immune cells implicated in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The dual CAR approach aims to enhance the elimination of pathogenic immune cells compared to single-targeted therapies. Fate Therapeutics plans to finalize product configuration and complete IND-enabling activities in 2025 for initial clinical investigation in autoimmune diseases[2][4][5].
