Overview

FTn-ICG is a nanoparticle-based imaging agent composed of indocyanine green (ICG), a near-infrared fluorescent dye, encapsulated within or conjugated to ferritin nanocages. Ferritin is a naturally occurring protein that forms hollow spherical structures capable of carrying various payloads. By loading ICG into these nanocages (FTn), the resulting complex improves the stability and bioavailability of ICG for in vivo imaging applications. The primary mechanism involves passive targeting and enhanced fluorescence for real-time visualization during surgical procedures or diagnostic imaging. This formulation aims to overcome limitations of free ICG such as rapid clearance and instability in aqueous solutions, providing improved contrast and longer circulation time for fluorescence-guided surgery or vascular/lymphatic mapping.
