Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fudosteine is a small molecule mucolytic and expectorant agent approved in Japan for the treatment of respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis and cough. It is also used for bronchial asthma, pulmonary emphysema, bronchiectasis, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis, atypical mycobacterial disease and diffuse panbronchiolitis. Fudosteine acts by inhibiting the expression of mucin 5AC (MUC5AC), thereby modulating mucus secretion in the airways[1][8]. It is a derivative of cysteine and classified chemically as a diamino amino acid with dicarboxylic acid and disulfide features[1][6].
