Overview
Fufang Shenyan is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound formulation primarily used for the treatment of various kidney diseases, including acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, occult nephritis, IgA nephropathy, and other related conditions. It is indicated for symptoms such as edema and proteinuria associated with these renal disorders[2]. The formulation consists of multiple herbal ingredients (the exact composition may vary by manufacturer), designed to address deficiencies in Qi and Yin according to TCM theory. Its mechanism of action involves anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects through modulation of signaling pathways such as NF-κB, Toll-like receptors (TLRs), PI3K/AKT, Wnt/β-catenin, and JAK-STAT. These actions result in regulation of immune cells—including T lymphocytes (CD4+), B lymphocytes—and cytokines; enhancement of macrophage function; and protection or regulation of intrinsic renal cells like glomerular mesangial cells[1][4]. The product is widely used in China as an adjunctive therapy for chronic kidney disease.
