Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fufang Yixie is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound formulation developed by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the management of hyperuricemia and gout. The formula is centered around the herb *Dioscorea septemloba* (Bixie) and is designed to address the underlying metabolic dysfunction of uric acid. Its primary mechanism of action involves the dual regulation of uric acid levels: it inhibits xanthine oxidase to decrease the endogenous production of uric acid and modulates renal urate transporters, specifically inhibiting URAT1 and GLUT9, to promote the excretion of uric acid through the kidneys. Additionally, Fufang Yixie possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce the frequency and severity of acute gouty arthritis attacks by suppressing inflammatory cytokines. It is typically administered as an oral granule or decoction.
