Overview
Fufang Zanghuixiang enteric soft capsule (also known as Compound Caraway Enteric Liquid Capsule) is a fixed-dose combination herbal medicine containing caraway oil and peppermint oil. Jointly developed by the Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Hebei Aierhaitai Pharmaceutical, it is formulated as an enteric-coated soft capsule designed to release its active ingredients directly in the duodenum, minimizing gastric irritation. The primary active components, menthol (from peppermint oil) and carvone/limonene (from caraway oil), exert synergistic spasmolytic, analgesic, and carminative effects. Menthol acts as a local calcium channel blocker to relax gastrointestinal smooth muscle and activates TRPM8/TRPA1 channels, while carvone acts as an antagonist of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and reduces nerve excitability. The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical development in China for the treatment of functional dyspepsia, including epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) and postprandial distress syndrome (PDS).
