Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fugliflozin (SHR2258) is an orally active small molecule inhibitor of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal tubules of the kidney, fugliflozin reduces renal glucose reabsorption and increases urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood glucose levels in an insulin-independent manner. It is part of Hengrui's pipeline of metabolic disease treatments, alongside their approved SGLT2 inhibitor henagliflozin. Fugliflozin is chemically distinct from other gliflozins, featuring a fluorinated structure designed to optimize its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile.
