Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fuling Decoction + Xiaochaihu Decoction is a combination of two classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulas. Fuling Decoction (Fuling Tang) and Xiaochaihu Decoction (Xiao Chai Hu Tang, also known as Minor Bupleurum Decoction) are both multi-herb prescriptions with distinct but sometimes complementary indications in TCM practice. - **Xiaochaihu Decoction** is composed of Bupleuri Radix (Chai Hu), Scutellariae Radix (Huang Qin), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Ban Xia), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Jiang), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ren Shen), Glycyrrhizae Radix Praeparata cum Melle (Zhi Gan Cao), and Jujubae Fructus (Da Zao)[1][5][6]. It is traditionally used to harmonize the Shaoyang stage of disease, modulate immune response, reduce inflammation, and support liver function. Modern studies suggest it can modulate inflammatory pathways, induce cytochrome P450 enzymes such as CYP3A1/2, and may have anti-tumor effects[5][6]. - **Fuling Decoction** typically contains Poria cocos fungus along with other herbs such as White Atractylodes rhizome, Cinnamon twig or root bark, Licorice root among others. It is primarily used for promoting urination to drain dampness and strengthen the spleen. The combination of these two formulas would be expected to provide synergistic effects for conditions involving both Shaoyang disharmony and dampness accumulation according to TCM theory. The mechanism involves multi-target modulation including anti-inflammatory action, immunomodulation via cytokine regulation, hepatoprotective effects through reduction of liver fibrosis markers[5], possible induction of hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes[6], and general harmonization/regulation of digestive/liver/gallbladder function.
