Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Full-spectrum cannabis oil is an oil-based extract derived from the Cannabis sativa plant containing a wide range of the plant’s naturally occurring bioactive compounds, including multiple cannabinoids (primarily cannabidiol [CBD] and tetrahydrocannabinol [THC]), terpenes, flavonoids, and potentially other minor constituents such as alkaloids. This type of extract is distinct from isolated or broad-spectrum formulations in that it retains most or all extractable components of the plant, often in ratios approximating those present in the original material. The mechanism of action is complex and thought to arise from the combined activity of cannabinoids as partial agonists/antagonists at endocannabinoid receptors (notably CB1 and CB2), as well as interactions with non-cannabinoid receptors and signaling pathways (including the modulation of inflammatory pathways via transcription factors like NF-κB and Nrf2). The presence of multiple constituents is proposed to produce an "entourage effect," enhancing therapeutic outcomes compared to single-molecule extracts. Full-spectrum cannabis oil is under investigation for a wide range of indications, including pain management, neurological disorders (such as epilepsy), metabolic conditions, anxiety, and sleep disorders. It has also been explored as a nutraceutical for liver steatosis, oxidative stress, and metabolic syndrome[1][2][5].
