A fully human monoclonal antibody (mAb) designed to neutralize the tetanus toxin produced by *Clostridium tetani*. Unlike traditional human tetanus immune globulin (TIG), which is derived from pooled human plasma and carries risks of supply shortages and blood-borne pathogen transmission, these mAbs are produced via recombinant DNA technology. They typically target the heavy chain of the tetanus toxin, preventing its binding to gangliosides on neuronal membranes and subsequent internalization, thereby blocking the inhibition of neurotransmitter release that causes spastic paralysis. Several candidates, such as Shionogi's S-101 and MassBiologics' TeAb, have been investigated as potential replacements for TIG in post-exposure prophylaxis.
