fulvestrant

Fulvestrant is a selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) and pure estrogen receptor antagonist used primarily in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It works by competitively binding to estrogen receptors on cancer cells, blocking the action of estrogen, downregulating and degrading the receptors, and thereby inhibiting tumor growth. Fulvestrant is effective against both tamoxifen-resistant and estrogen-sensitive breast cancer cell lines. It does not exhibit agonist activity at the estrogen receptor and has no significant peripheral steroidal effects in postmenopausal women. The drug is administered as an intramuscular injection[1][3][4][5][6][7][8].
