Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Unizym is an oral digestive enzyme combination product developed and manufactured by Batterjee Pharma. It is primarily indicated for the relief of indigestion, dyspepsia, and flatulence. The formulation typically consists of fungal diastase, papain, and simethicone. Fungal diastase is an amylolytic enzyme that facilitates the breakdown of complex carbohydrates and starch into simpler sugars. Papain, a proteolytic enzyme extracted from the fruit of *Carica papaya*, aids in the digestion of dietary proteins. Simethicone serves as an anti-foaming agent (surfactant) that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, allowing them to coalesce and be expelled more easily, thereby relieving bloating and abdominal discomfort.
