Fungisome Gel

Fungisome Gel is a topical liposomal formulation of the antifungal agent amphotericin B, developed by Lifecare Innovations. It contains 0.1% w/w liposomal amphotericin B and is specifically designed for the treatment of fungal skin infections, as well as infections in burn wounds, bed sores, and ophthalmic fungal infections. As a liposomal delivery system, it enhances the penetration of amphotericin B into the skin while potentially reducing systemic toxicity. The drug exerts its antifungal effect by binding to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, creating pores that lead to membrane disruption and fungal cell death. It represents the first topical liposomal amphotericin B formulation approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
