furazidin

Furazidin is a nitrofuran derivative antibacterial agent with bacteriostatic action. It is active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is primarily used for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs), as well as skin and soft tissue infections. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction by bacterial enzymes to reactive intermediates that damage bacterial DNA and other macromolecules such as ribosomal proteins and enzymes involved in metabolism. This broad mechanism disrupts multiple cellular processes within bacteria[1][4]. Resistance development is rare due to its multi-targeted effects. It has been marketed under various brand names in Eastern Europe and some Asian countries[7].
