Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Furfuryl palmitate is an ester formed from furfuryl alcohol and palmitic acid, used primarily as a topical antioxidant in dermatology. It acts by inhibiting the production of reactive singlet oxygen, thereby reducing oxidative stress in the skin. This mechanism helps to alleviate symptoms associated with atopic dermatitis (AD), contact dermatitis, eczema, xerosis, and other cutaneous inflammatory conditions. Furfuryl palmitate is incorporated into emollient creams and has been shown to reduce inflammation, itching, and improve skin barrier function. It is considered a steroid-sparing alternative for mild-to-moderate skin disorders due to its favorable safety profile and lack of significant side effects[1][2][4][6].
