Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SQIN-furosemide (Lasix ONYU) is a novel, pH-neutral, high-concentration subcutaneous formulation of the loop diuretic furosemide, developed by SQ Innovation. It is designed as a drug-device combination product for at-home self-administration via a wearable abdominal patch infusor (SQIN-Infusor). The formulation is specifically engineered to be pH-neutral to minimize skin irritation, a common limitation of standard alkaline furosemide preparations. It is indicated for the treatment of edema associated with fluid overload in adult patients with chronic heart failure. By inhibiting the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, it promotes diuresis and natriuresis with bioavailability comparable to intravenous administration, potentially reducing the need for hospitalizations.
