Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SQIN-furosemide is an investigational, pH-neutral (pH 7.4), high-concentration (30 mg/mL) subcutaneous formulation of the loop diuretic furosemide. Developed by SQ Innovation in collaboration with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, it is designed for administration via a wearable on-body delivery device (SQIN-Infusor) to facilitate the treatment of congestion in patients with heart failure, particularly to enable early supported discharge from the hospital. Like conventional furosemide, it acts by inhibiting the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, promoting diuresis and natriuresis. The formulation's neutral pH is intended to reduce the skin irritation and pain typically associated with the subcutaneous injection of standard alkaline furosemide preparations.
