Overview

**Furosemide + niacin** is a combination of two distinct drugs: **furosemide**, a loop diuretic, and **niacin** (nicotinic acid, vitamin B3), a lipid-modifying agent. - **Furosemide** increases urine output by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the kidneys, primarily used to manage edema associated with heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease, as well as hypertension[1][4]. - **Niacin** is a form of vitamin B3 used to treat or prevent niacin deficiency and to manage hyperlipidemia by reducing hepatic synthesis and release of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), leading to lower triglycerides and increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol[2][7]. There is no evidence that furosemide + niacin exists as a fixed-dose combination or unique pharmaceutical product; their combined use may occur in clinical practice when both indications overlap[1][2][5]. The combination may lead to enhanced diuretic and hypotensive effects[1][2].
