Overview

Fushen Granule + fecal microbiota is a combination therapy consisting of a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Fushen Granule is an improved granule based on the classic "Fushen Formula," composed of eight herbal ingredients including *Astragalus membranaceus* and *Salvia miltiorrhiza*. It is primarily used to treat intestinal dysfunction in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and those undergoing peritoneal dialysis. When combined with FMT, the therapy targets the "renal-intestinal axis" to restore gut microbiome homeostasis. The mechanism involves increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as *Lactobacillus* and the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio, while reducing the production of gut-derived uremic toxins like indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresol sulfate (PCS). This intervention repairs the intestinal mucosal barrier, reduces serum endotoxin and D-lactate levels, and slows the progression of chronic renal failure (CRF) and renal fibrosis.
