Overview
Fushengong decoction (FSGD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily developed and studied at the Yongchuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital affiliated with Chongqing Medical University for the treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF). FSGD contains several bioactive small molecules, including quercetin, formononetin, and pachymic acid. Its therapeutic effects are mediated through the regulation of multiple signaling pathways; specifically, it activates the PTEN pathway while inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/NF-κB and TGF-β1 pathways, thereby reducing renal parenchyma damage and interstitial fibrosis. Additionally, FSGD has been shown to increase the expression of nephrin mRNA in renal tissues, which helps maintain the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier by protecting podocytes. Clinical studies have demonstrated that FSGD, when combined with Western medicine, significantly improves renal function markers such as serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and cystatin C.
