Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of fusidic acid, a topical antibacterial agent, and tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant. This combination has been studied for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Tacrolimus works by inhibiting T-lymphocyte activation and inflammatory cytokine production, while fusidic acid prevents bacterial growth, primarily by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis. Studies have indicated that complementary fusidic acid had no additional benefit compared with tacrolimus alone in treating atopic dermatitis.
