Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fusihalt is a topical antibiotic cream marketed by VTS Life Sciences, containing fusidic acid at a concentration of 2% w/w. Fusidic acid is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to elongation factor G (EF-G) on the bacterial ribosome, which prevents the release of the EF-G-GDP complex and halts the translocation step of translation. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial skin infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, most notably *Staphylococcus aureus* (including methicillin-resistant strains) and *Streptococcus* species. Common clinical uses include the treatment of impetigo, folliculitis, erythrasma, and secondary infections in dermatitis. Although sometimes categorized within antifungal or broad dermatological portfolios in marketing contexts, its primary therapeutic activity is antibacterial.
