Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Futalin is a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated as an emulsion gel. Its active ingredient, diclofenac diethylamine, is designed to penetrate the skin to deliver localized pain relief and reduce inflammation. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2, which are crucial for the biosynthesis of prostaglandins—lipid compounds that mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. This mechanism leads to decreased prostaglandin production, thereby alleviating symptoms associated with various musculoskeletal conditions. It is used for conditions such as osteoarthrosis, external humeral epicondylitis, and other forms of joint and muscular pain.
