Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fuxiong San is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily composed of the processed lateral root of *Aconitum carmichaelii* (Fuzi) and the rhizome of *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong). It is historically utilized for the treatment of 'blood stasis' and 'cold-pathogen' related conditions, with modern clinical research focusing on its neuroprotective and cardiovascular benefits. The formula contains bioactive alkaloids (such as benzoylmesaconine) and phthalides (such as tetramethylpyrazine and ferulic acid) that exert therapeutic effects through multiple pathways, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. Specifically, it has been studied for its potential to alleviate migraine, improve cognitive function in models of vascular dementia, and provide cardioprotection by modulating calcium signaling and reducing oxidative stress in cardiomyocytes.
