Overview
Fuzheng Huatan Jiedu decoction (FZHJD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of indolent B-cell lymphomas, including follicular lymphoma and marginal zone lymphoma. The decoction is formulated based on the TCM principles of strengthening the body's resistance (Fuzheng), resolving phlegm (Huatan), and detoxifying (Jiedu). Mechanistically, FZHJD is believed to exert its therapeutic effects by modulating the immune microenvironment, specifically by regulating T-lymphocyte subsets and increasing the CD4+/CD8+ ratio. Additionally, research suggests it inhibits the proliferation of malignant B-cells and induces apoptosis, potentially through the downregulation of survival signaling pathways such as the PI3K/Akt/mTOR axis and the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. It is typically used as a maintenance therapy or in combination with conventional treatments to improve clinical outcomes and patient quality of life.
